Towards Ending School Exclusion (TESE)

A SELECTION OF RECENT RESEARCH RELATED TO SCHOOL DISCIPLINE

This selection of articles on exclusionary school discipline has been compiled to support schools in understanding the broader issues and strategies related to disciplinary practices and in particular the ways in which inequities are perpetuated through exclusionary practice.

The resources are divided into four key areas
to provide a comprehensive view:

  1. Nationwide/Statewide Information offers insights into trends, policies, and data at the national and state levels, helping schools understand the larger context of discipline reform. 

  2. Family and Community Information focuses on the role of families and communities in supporting positive behavior and discipline practices.

  3. Classroom/School Information provides practical strategies for educators to foster supportive school environments and reduce exclusionary discipline.

  4. Student Experience delves into how disciplinary actions impact students, particularly marginalized groups, offering perspectives on how school discipline intersects with race, gender, and disability.
