Requesting Letters of Recommendation from Dr. Zinsser

If you are seeking a letter of recommendation for a job, fellowship, or graduate studies from Dr. Zinsser, please be aware of the following requirements:

  1. Communicate early and often with Dr. Zinsser. She will need more than 6 weeks notice for any letter and she may need more time during busy times of the semester.

  2. Send your resume or CV via email, a description of the position or program to which you are applying, and a short description of what specifically you would like Dr. Zinsser to highlight in the letter (e.g., academic performance).

  3. Be very clear about how and when the letter should be delivered - provide self-addressed, stamped envelopes if a physical copy of the letter needs to be mailed.

If you are interested in requesting a letter of recommendation from Dr. Zinsser based on your performance in PSCH 320, please remember that are 150 students in that lecture course and unless you have met with Dr. Zinsser frequently or worked directly with her on an extended project, she will not be able to write you very personalized letter of recommendation. In fact, she will likely only be able to comment on your grades, coursework, and attendance. These letters are not often weighted heavily in graduate school admissions decisions. It is in your best interest to obtain more personalized letters from faculty or supervisors who know you well and can comment on your character is work ethic more concretely.
